The duration of vegetation period of several wine-grape varieties in the conditions of apsheron
During the vegetation period there come out the vital functions of grape plant (growth,
development, fruiting, etc.). The vegetation of vine plant begins with sap flow, swelling and
budding in spring on reaching the mean temperature of 10 °С. This temperature is accepted
as “biological zero” vore vine plant. Vegetation period ends in autumn when the weather gets
cooler and mean temperature decreases to +10°C and below. Number of days of vegetation
period differ from variety to variety. By this feature all grape varieties are divided into groups
according their ripening period. Duration of vegetable period depends of the variety, weather
conditions of the year, as well as the soil and climatic conditions of the area. In Azerbaijan,
one of zones possessing very favorable conditions for development of viticulture, is Apsheron
peninsula. Historically table viticulture was widely spread at this territory, the population
enreached the gene pool of the country by table grape varieties of very high quality. Our
researches were aimed at studying of Apsheron conditions as for its suitability for growing of
wine grape varieties for use as raw material in high profitable sphere as wine-making. In the
article are presented the results of study of the terms of vegetation process of wine grape
varieties and hybrid forms for obtaining of high quality wines in conditions of Apsheron
peninsula.
